- Scorpio -

The scorpio sign- you either love it or hate it. And that follows the sign's intense nature just well. The old astrologers did not like the sign at all. As Liz Greene says, reading the descriptions they had to say a Scorpio might as well turn themselves in at an early age to do a service to the people around him. Pathological, dark, intense, the signs of rapists  and murderers. One can almost imagine the Astrologer telling a woman in labor in November, "well, can't you hold it in for just one more month?"

Then there's the gothic rock star Scorpio whose broodiness is an appeal to many a squealing fangirl (or boy, if that's your game). Deeply emotional and with a fascinating dark side and psychological insight to them, this Scorpio is your proverbial demon lover whom everyone 'misunderstands'. Either way, darkness follows the sign. Fitting, then, that the two Scorpios in Persona 2 happen to have a punk rock motif to them.

Eikichi and Anna both appear to be the darker characters of the game, in looks and style. Eikichi's a super narcissist who "rules" the school, gets into lot's of fights and carries a machine gun in his voilin case, and Anna, after an unfortunate accident, turns bitter and depressed and hangs around a nightclub all the time; that is, when she isn;t doing Kamen Tou things.

Of course, not all Scorpios necessarily wear funky make up or rock hairstyles, but the sign is one which deals with the darker sides of the psyche. The eight house, ruled by Scorpio, deals with death and sexuality (not together, thankfully), and the sign is reputed to be able to dig out the dark side of people. Being a water sign, emotion plays a huge part, but unlike Cancer's maternal affection or Pisces' mysticism, the emotion of Scorpio is more like boiling water. Which is not to say that the sign is all bad, but Scorpio definately isn't above stinging potential threats that get too close. Eikichi's reputation for stripping the pants off defeated opponents. This being an act of revenge for what happened to him when he was younger. And revenge is another Scorpio pastime; see Anna all too willing to abandon her whole life to join the kamen tou, with empathy (remember, it's a water sign) towards the Joker's plight similar to her own. Secrecy is another Scorpio keyword. Is Eikichi secretive? Just ask his dad, who has no clue what his son does all day long.

Scorpio is ruled by Pluto, a planet that has quite a reputation. It managed to get a status more nefarious than child-eating, pain dealing Saturn. Which is quite a feat, since the planet has only been in the astrological feild for less than a century! The planet is that of transformation, but that's a bit of a misnomer. "Transformation" gives the impression of the happy catterpillar turning into a butterfly. As Bil Tierny says, when Neptune operates, he uses anasthetics to make the operation as soft as possible. But Pluto does no such thing, he wants you to feel what's being ripped out, and show  you the bleeding exposed organ afterwards. Pluto transformations are intense, hard and --yes-- quite painful. Nothing is done half assed when Pluto's in town. Overweight and got body image issues? Go through a rigid aescetic program and overcompensate by acting narcissitic. Life deals you a hard hand? Join a doomsday cult and watch the world go down in flame. Small wonder that Pluto, and Scorpio by extention, are considered to be pathological.

Eikichi and Anna are characters that are either loved, or hated. Which fits quite well with their Scorpionic qualitie
