On April 3, 2003, David Fickling Books released a press release informing the world that they would be publishing a new book by Philip Pullman in the His Dark Materials universe. According to the press release, Lyra's Oxford will consist of a new short story ("Lyra and the Birds"), illustrations by John Lawrence, maps, and more. Though the book is associated with His Dark Materials, it can be read as a stand-alone work.
Lyra's Oxford will be released in the United Kingdom on October 28th, 2003 for a price of £9.99 by David Fickling Books Ltd (of The Random House Group). It will be published in the United States of America by Alfred A. Knopf Books for Young Readers (of Random House Children's Books) for $10.95. As for other countries - the press release notes that Random House UK is working with the foreign publishers of the original His Dark Materials trilogy.
Lyra's Oxford Press Release (at Bridge To The Stars.Net)
"...the reader will share the excitement of discovering a small bundle of material that has somehow slipped between Lyra's universe and our own. It will include...fully illustrated intricate maps and other ephemera from Lyra's universe. The text will be illustrated throughout in beautiful black and white wood-blocks together with specially printed three-colour pull out maps of Lyra's Oxford. No expense has been spared to make a publication which could 'perhaps' have come from a parallel universe..."|
